Endurance Championship Series       Word Document
Presented by Kumho

The Endurance Championship Series Presented by Kumho, ECS, is a points series based on production style sports cars designed to test the endurance limits of man and machine.  Series races are selected from existing endurance racing events put on by various sanctioning bodies.  Venues are hand selected to provide an array of challenges and landscapes throughout the series schedule.         Points are awarded for each event based on a combination of race distance and class impartiality normalized by the series index.

    Teams may join the series by entering online a minimum of one week before the event, or by mail in which case the entry must be received two weeks before the event. Teams may also join the series at the track but must do so prior to their participation in any of the event’s on-track sessions.  Team entry will include the completion of all required paperwork.  Participating teams will be required to properly display series decals which will be provided.  This will include a windshield banner and may include other event specific decals. No other windshield banner may be displayed.

    The Points are awarded based upon the series index.  This index is based upon the performance differential between the following SCCA Club Racing classes and their rule-sets: Improved Touring, Showroom Stock, Touring, Prepared, American Sedan, Spec Miata, Spec Racer, Super Production, and ITE.  Other classes may also be considered as requested by the individual event organizers.  The performance of these classes will be evaluated in comparison to the above listed classes for inclusion in the series index.

 Awarding of Points:

       Teams registered in the ECS will accumulate points based upon their completed race distance.

At the conclusion of each event, points will be awarded based on the following formula:

# laps completed X class multiplier  = ECS Laps*
*This number will be rounded UP to the next whole number
ECS Laps X Track Length = ECS POINTS

Class Multipliers and Track Lengths for determining points are as follows:

Summit Point Motorsports Park – 2.00 miles
Nelson Ledges Road Course – 2.00 miles
Virginia International Raceway – 3.27 miles
Texas World Speedway-2.90 miles

ITE, SPO, SPU, ST, T1, ITR, BP, DP = 1.00
T2 = 1.03
ITS = 1.05
T3 = 1.06
ITA, SM, SSB = 1.09
ITB = 1.12
SSC = 1.14
ITC = 1.16

Points will be awarded to all registered teams starting an event. Drivers may be substituted on the team. Year-End point totals will be based on each teams’ best three finishes in the ECS Races. In the event of a tie, the award will go to the team with the best in-class qualifying record (highest number of poles, followed by 2nds, 3rds . . . until the tie is broken).

    At each event, there will be a separate tech inspection for the ECS. ECS tech will be located, for most events, at the Kumho Tire trailer. Tech times will be posted on the website before the event.  ECS Tech will verify eligibility of the car in regards to the declared class and tire, proper display of series decals, and that all prescribed procedures have been followed.  Presentation at ECS Tech must be completed before involvement in any on-track session.  Promotional Photos of the car and team may be taken at this time.  Compliance will be verified with a combination of random spot checks on pit lane during the event or by presentation of the car, when directed by an ECS official, to ECS Tech at any time between event sessions.  Defiance of an ECS Official or any other ECS regulation may result in forfeiture of series points. Decisions of the ECS officials are final and may not be appealed.
